Charlie Sheen is Pulling a Conan

Seeing a show on Broadway while in NYC reminded me that I should check out the upcoming shows at the Fabulous Fox Theater.  I stopped in my tracks when I saw this on the April calendar:

My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not An Option Show is coming for you. I'm going on the road. LIVE. Will there be surprises? Will there be guests? Will there be mayhem? Will you ask questions? Will you laugh? Will you scream? Will you know the truth? WILL THERE BE MORE?!?! This IS where you will hear the REAL story from the Warlock. Bring it I dare you to keep up with me.

My first thought was, “ugh, seriously?!”  I’ve done an exceptional job of avoiding all things Charlie Sheen for the past couple of weeks (I haven’t even exclaimed “winning!” in at least 10 days), and wasn’t aware that he is still relevant.  It seems to me that he’s pulling a Conan O’brien by going on the road after being fired from a television show.  Worked for Conan (he scored a new late night show on TBS), so why not follow the formula?

Get fired from a TV show: check!

Accumulate a strong following on social networks: check!

Utilize said networks to generate free publicity: check!

Take a show on the road to stay productive/relevant and please your fans: … uh… well, it looks like the similarities end here.

The circumstances surrounding Conan’s dismissal from NBC were unfair and outraged his fans, who continued to support him, making his road show a natural progression.  Charlie Sheen, on the other hand, is just a crazy mofo who got fired because he’s a crazy mofo.  His “fans” just want to see what crazy s**t he’ll do next.  Anyone who attends his show simply wants to behold the madness in person.  That’s just my opinion, of course.  Are you a true Charlie fan?  Will you shell out $50-80 to see him at the Fox?
